hstacks

Infrastructure as Code for Hetzner Cloud

Get Started

What is hstacks?

hstacks is an IaC Platform for Hetzner Cloud.

With hstacks, you can define, deploy and manage infrastructure in your Hetzner Cloud account using standardised, shareable, and customisable templates - enabling you to deploy your infrastructure how you like, when you like.

This means you can spend less time setting up your infrastructure in Hetzner Cloud, and more time doing what you do best - building great applications on a fantastic platform.

Infrastucture can be defined with templates, which can be used to deploy Stacks. A Stack is just a simple bit of JSON that you can put together following the hstacks documentation or examples - or with our super-simple dashboard.

Once you have your Template, you can deploy it with the hstacks dashboard, or via the hstacks API - enabling you to create, manage, and delete resources as you need them.

hstacks doesn’t host or manage infrastructure for you, it uses the Hetzner Cloud API to create and manage resources for you in your own Hetzner Cloud account. So you’ll need to be a Hetzner Cloud customer to build things!

Who built hstacks?

I built hstacks! I'm Sean M. Tracey.

I’ve been building products and services with Cloud Platforms for over a decade, and I’m a huge fan of Hetzner Cloud. I built hstacks so everyone has a simple, repeatable, reliable way to deploy infrastructure with either the click of a button, or a HTTP request.

Hetzner Cloud is great. It’s cheap, it’s fast, and it’s super-simple to use - but it doesn’t have a dedicated IaC product. I needed IaC for my projects, and I wanted to use Hetzner Cloud, so I’ve built one - and you can use it too!

My core philosophy is that technology should be easy and accessible to everybody. I think hstacks can make that a reality by enabling people to build and share on one of the best IaaS platforms out there: Hetzner Cloud.

You can find out more about me on my personal website: https://smt.codes.

Please note I’m not affiliated with Hetzner Cloud in any way. I’m just a fan who needed a product and built one that everyone could use.

How much does hstacks cost?

Right now, hstacks is free, although I do intend to create some pricing tiers for it eventually.

So here’s the deal: hstacks will be completely free while it’s in development. Once version 1.0 of hstacks is released, I’m going to charge for it. I don’t know how much yet, but it'll start from £1 per month.

So why try now to pay later? Well, for anyone that signs up before version 1.0 hstacks will never be more than £1 per month, and they’ll have access to every feature that isn’t going to bankrupt me. This is going to be the "core" membership - A unique tier just for early adopters.

I think that’s a fair deal. Give it a go now, and if you don’t like it enough once it’s “finished”, stop using it. Or, wait until version 1.0, and judge whether or not it’s worth the price.

But for now, it’s free, so go build great things with it!

Free!*

(*for now, and super-cheap later if you sign-up before version 1.0)

(otherwise, it’ll just be regular-cheap in the near future)
